Social Development And Management Society (SDMS) is a Voluntary Organization, based in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh. Its endeavor is to seek basic needs like socio- economic justice, education, health, relief and rehabilitation work and environment protection for deprived seriteties and needed. It has been active in the welfare of children, particularly girl children, their health, education and rights, women empowerment, micro insurance, development of micro enterprises, youth motivation and counseling and environmental development. SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT AND MANAGEMENT SOCIETY (SDMS) is registered as a Society under the Indian Societies Act 21, 1860. It started with activities focusing on education focused on Child Labour rehabilitation and prevention, women empowerment, livelihood, youth counseling, slums and community development in the districts of Kanpur. During the last few years it has expanded its areas of activities to the urban slums areas of Kanpur and the villages in the joining districts to improve and upgrade their living environment and obtain means of earning their livelihood. The target groups in the slums & rural areas have been the destitute and delinquent, working and street children, women and youths.
In 1997 SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT AND MANAGEMENT SOCIETY (SDMS) together with other NGOs working in the region of Kanpur took the initiative to form a network KARVAN (Kanpur region voluntary action network) of NGOs, activist group and concerned citizens to work for promotion of status of the child, prevention of disability, destitution, delinquency and distress and protection of those under stress.
Our key domains of work include mother and child health, agriculture development, micro finance, Skill development, Livelihood, education, nutrition, capacity building, Child rights, water & sanitation and HIV/AIDS. While working both at micro and macro level, we have gained practical expertise in community development processes and developed a competent team of professional to work with the community, civil society organization, donor agencies and government to provide qualitative services.
